Please join us for this lovely woodland walk by the River Clyde. We will meet at the New Lanark top car park at 10.00am. We will walk downhill to use the toilets at the New Lanark visitor centre which opens at 10.00. From there the path leads through the woods to Bonnington Linn. There are magnificent views of the falls from several view points. We will cross the river at Bonnington Linn and turn right along the other side of the river. This path is more muddy with some fallen trees, but is passable. It leads to Kirkfieldbank where we will cross back across the river and climb up into Lanark. We go down to the river again through Castlebank Park and follow the path back to New Lanark. We plan to have coffee etc at the visitor centre.
There are no toilets along the route. We will stop for a short break at Bonnington Linn and for lunch opposite New Lanark.
There are some steep paths and many flights of steps with a total climb of 336 meters. As the paths are muddy in places consider gaiters and walking poles.
Local walk grade C+/B-
