This walk is a figure-of-8 walk, where we walk a morning loop, returning to the start point at lunchtime, and after lunch walk a second route in the afternoon. This means people can walk the morning loop only, the afternoon loop only, or walk all day. If you are walking all day please bring some lunch with you, as there may not be time to buy food during the break.
Please park considerately around the village and meet around the triangle of grass near the Three Cranes pub, ready to start walking promptly at 10.30am. For the morning loop we will walk North-East to Thorpe Malsor via the Cransley reservoir dam, then we will head towards the A14, walk by it for a while, before heading back to Great Cransley to the start point and lunch. The morning loop is around 4.5 miles.
We will have our packed lunch near the Three Cranes pub in Great Cransley. It would’ve been nice to stop for a quick drink at the pub, but it seems to have largely closed (for the winter at least).
In the afternoon we will start between 12:45-1pm from outside the Three Cranes, if you are walking in the afternoon only please arrive to walk from 12:45, though we may delay the start until 1pm if we haven’t quite finished our lunch. We will head West to Loddington via Cransley wood, before looping back to Great Cransley. The afternoon loop is around 4.5 miles.
If anyone wants to, there may be the option to go to a pub in Broughton after the walk for a quick drink.
