A u-shaped walk from Five Mile Wood back to Stanley. This is most of a circular walk designed by West Stormont Woodland Group called the Stanley Three Woods Walk. We will pass through Five Mile Wood before crossing open countryside to Airntully, then onto Taymount Wood and then make our way back to Stanley via the old railway line and Shiel Hill. Fine views over the surrounding countryside in the open areas. Mostly on tracks, paths and field margins. Not too much ascent but rough underfoot in places.
Local grade C+. RADO
Rough and wet in places so poles recommended.
This walk will require shuttling of walkers from Stanley to Five Mile Wood. To ease this would car drivers with passengers please enter Stanley via the Tulliebelton turn off from the A9 and leave their passengers at the small Five Mile Wood car park before proceeding to Stanley. Also to ease shuttling this walk will be restricted to approximately 15 walkers.
This is a bus friendly walk and participants could catch the 34A at Mill Street at 9.25 to arrive in Stanley Square at 9.44.
