Another interesting walk from Cheshire Walkers !!
Please arrive before 10am on the car park as the walk will commence at 10am.
We will start at the Artist Corner Car park in Matlock at 10am (start time of walk), where we will head across a footbridge and make our way up to the infamous Giddy Edge on High Tor, nicknamed the scariest footpath in England with a narrow ledge in some parts and a 300ft drop to Matlock. Don't worry though, the two sections that are quite narrow, and where you turn left hand corners and are where they have kindly installed handrails to hold onto. Once at the end they have also kindly put a bench for those needing sit down and calm their heart rate down again !!
When I did the recce for this walk, it was quite nervy knowing there is a 300ft drop if I slipped. I held onto the rails with both hands going sideways along the path facing the cliff.
For those who don't want to tackle Giddy Edge there is a bye-pass path which meet up after about 100 metres. Also, dogs are not recommended on Giddy Edge so can use the bye pass path and wait their owners !!
After Giddy Edge we will make our way to Riber Castle and then down through Coumbs Wood, Bow Wood and Lea Wood which had overgrown ferns on a path of little use (I could have done with machete) to scramble through.
We then head along a canal to High Peak Junction before we take on the High Peak Trail to Black Rocks 1.4 miles away. High Peak Trail is 1 mile uphill gradual slope.
Black Rocks are a local beauty spot with great views over Matlock.
After Black Rocks we head to the Heights of Abraham passing Heights of Jacob first.
After Heights of Abraham we head back down and make our way to the Artist Corner car park.
