A challenging hill walk in remote country following good tracks and paths for the majority of the way. However there are peat bog areas with indistinct routes.
After a pleasant but lengthy walk-in following the twisting Water of Saughs there is a climb through the heather beside the West Burn offering wonderful views back down the Glen.
Passing by the track to Cairn of Meadows, and contouring Round Hill, the path turns right for the rise to Cruys. From the cairn there are good views to Mount Keen, the ridge of Lochnagar and the Mounth summits. Turning right and following the fence over boggier ground we reach the high point of Cairn of Meadows. The route then turns in the direction of Black Hill before joining a path heading south to begin the descent back to the track in the glen and the return to the car park.
This walk accompanies a lower level walk, starting from the same point and time, but taken at a gentler pace with another leader.

As this is just before the opening of the grouse shooting season, any dogs MUST be kept on very short leads. On wild, empty, open heather moorland, with few discreet toileting opportunities.
