From Manor Park car park we make our way NE up to Cock Hill and continue on along Glossop Low.
We join the Pennine Way before veering off by Joseph Patch and towards the cairn at Bleaklow Head.
Then we walk a longer stretch of the Pennine Way before returning to Glossop via the Doctor’s Gate path.
Quite a few peat bogs to negotiate along the Pennine Way, not too bad, but strenuous. Some lovely far-reaching views if the weather is kind to us.
Recce done 26th February – one memorable moment was the sight of a huge hare running along a gully with its distinctive white winter coat - which reminds me:-
“I’ll go where I will, over valley and hill and I’ll lie where the bracken is deep
I belong to the mountains, those pure crystal fountains, where the rocks lie ragged and steep
I’ve seen the white hare in the gullies and the curlew fly high overhead
And sooner than part from the mountains, I think I’d rather be dead”
Walkers from other groups are always welcome, as are non-members wanting to sample walking with our friendly group of ramblers. Just turn up and make yourself known to the walk leader.
Please make sure you have an ICE (in Case of Emergency) card on you when out walking – you know it makes sense - if you don’t have one then ask the walk leader for one before the walk starts.
On our walks, we regret no dogs please UNLESS the walk is described as DOG FRIENDLY.
