Moderately paced 14 or 10 mile walk (22.5 /16.8 km).
My favourite walk!
Beautiful walk with many spectacular views of lush valleys and the coast; passing by picturesque villages, historic churches, parkland, river valleys, the South Downs Ridge and coastal path into Seaford.
Some steep climbs and descents but also areas of mildly undulating/ level terrain.
Route: From Glynde we make our way to the village of West Firle; after which there is a climb up to the South Downs Ridge to join the South Downs Way which we will be following for most of the walk. On reaching the Ridge, we should be rewarded with panoramic views of the downlands from one side and the coast on the other, before descending to our lunch stop at the old smuggling village of Alfriston. Refreshed, we follow the South Downs Way along the Cuckmere River bank and then Friston Forest before a steep climb to view the Exceat valley below us. From here we descend to catch one of the frequent buses to Seaford Station or continue on via the Vanguard Way and Seaford Coastal path before descending into Seaford for a stretch of bracing sea air and classic beach huts along the front; finishing the walk at Seaford station.
Lunch Stop: Alfriston with its many refreshment and picnic opportunities.
Drop- out point: Exceat for bus to Seaford Station.
Meet at Glynde Station at 10.25.
