Overview

Moderate to brisk 23.4km/14.6 mile walk with 420m/1378ft ascent and net walking time of 5.5 hours. Drop-out point after 9.4km/xm from lunch pub at Telscombe Cliffs for bus shortcut to Brighton, Newhaven or Eastbourne (Line 12/12A).

Sussex Ouse, Centenary Park (Peacehaven), Undercliff Path, Greenwich Meridian, Telscombe Tye, stunning views from the downs and back into the Ouse Valley.

Route: across the Ouse, turn left along the riverwall, away from the river past Dean's Farm and Halcombe Farm up to Lodge Hill, past Hoddern Farm south along tracks to Peacehaven and the coast, west along the cliff to The Smuggler's Rest for lunch (9.4 km), uphill through Telscombe Tye pastures to brow this side of Telscombe, NW along the ridge to Highdole Hill, SW to Picker's Hill Farm and High Hill, then NE and E via Pickers Hill and Breaky Bottom onto SDW, turn right along SDW via Mill Hill and Southease village to the station. **If on time for a long wait for a train, diversion to The Abergavenny Arms in Rodmell.

Lunch: Pub lunch at The Smugglers Rest, Telscombe Cliffs.

Meet at Southease Station at 11.06.

Travel: Victoria 09.54/Clapham Junction 10.01/East Croydon 10.10 - Eastbourne train - changing at Lewes (arr 10.56) to 11.00 Seaford train arr Southease at 11.06.

Ticket/Fare: 

Finish: Southease Station (pub diversion en route if long wait envisaged!). Return trains at 17.06, 18.07.
