It may be short, but this is a really lovely walk with good variety and superb views. Starting by Hailes Abbey, we follow the Cotswold Way on a long steady climb up through woods and then across some fields, to reach the Beckbury Monument at the top of the escarpment. From here our walk flattens out for a stretch before dropping down to go through Wood Stanway and back, across farmland, to our start point.
For those interested, post walk refreshments can be had in the cafe at Hayles Fruit Farm, just up the road from the Abbey (recommended)
(see weblink below for a map of the route)
On pretty good paths and tracks throughout, plus a little bit of road. Only one or two stiles. The ascent is quite easy, with a steady gradient on a good track, apart from one last steep little bit up to the monument. The descent could be slippery in places in wet weather. Likely to be sheep in some fields but cattle unlikely. Suitable for well-behaved dogs on leads
