Join us for a hilly walk around the Hambleden Valley. There's over 1,000 ft to climb - mostly in shady woods, and we'll walk at a steady, moderate pace.
We start by walking along the valley bottom, before our first climb up through woods towards Beeches farm. Then it's down again, and on to the small hamlet of Skirmett, looking out for marbled white butterflies if it's sunny - and glimpses of the Turville Windmill. After a short stretch along the road, we're back into the woods, climbing towards Luxtors Farm & Jubilee plantation. As we make our way back, you may catch scenic glimpses of Hambleden Valley below us, through the trees.
We'll have a short elevenses break about ¾ of the way around the walk. We aim to finish around lunchtime, and we can stop for drinks, ice cream, cake and/or toasties for lunch back in Hambleden Village Cafe. Do bring plenty to drink and some snacks for elevenses.
Meet for an early start at 9:15am start in Hambleden Village car park behind the Stag and Huntsman pub - parking charge £4.
Public transport option: the 850 bus leaves Reading 07:45 arriving at Hambleden Mill End 08:42. It's then a 25 minute walk along the pavement and across fields to the start of the walk.
Please no dogs on this walk due to livestock.
