Overview

This is a repeat of a favourite walk with the aim of checking out the new fencing arrangements now that the RDS Forestry project has started in Broughton Hope.

It is a relatively short ridge walk with a steep upward and downward climb that gives us stunning views of the area. Half way along the ridge towards Hammerhead, we head off to the right to Trahenna (549m) and enjoy views to Dawyck, to Drumelzier, to Glenholm and down the Tweed Valley towards Worm Hill. We return to the ridge by a slightly different route and continue along the steep valley end to Hammerhead’s cairn (513m). After a sharp descent we join the John Buchan way back to the walkers’ car park. Poles recommended, along with snacks/ coffee / light lunch.

Due to steep climbs, it's a Grade B walk. It will take around 3.5 hours.
