Overview

Hello Everyone

A Derbyshire ramble for us this Sunday with walk leader Eve at the helm from ever popular Hartington from where we'll head out on a northerly circuit. Lumpy terrain throughout makes this a Moderate grade event featuring approximately 20 stiles, a mix of timber ones, step-over stone stiles, squeeze-though stiles etc. Our route includes some lesser known paths with a little road walking too. Poles will be an advantage.

⚠️A warm day is forecast so please come well prepared i.e., Sun cream, hat, and plenty of water. There's no opportunity to purchase anything once we get going. Some shade possible for both coffee and lunch breaks.

Fancy it? You're welcome to join us! Let us know you're coming a day or two beforehand if this is your first time with Chase & District group so that we can keep our 👀's open for you at the start, bearing in mind that Hartington is a busy place on Sunday mornings full of other walkers often with different Ramblers groups. Thank you.

Registration: 09.45. Walk start: 10.00.  Walk leader: Eve (07894 947955).

Loo's available at the start.

⚠️Our own members should note there isn't a rendezvous at Hednesford for this event. Please go direct to the start.

A choice of pubs or a cafe for our usual post walk refreshments.

See you there on Sunday morning!

Directions primarily for our own members or anyone arriving from the south on the A515. ⚠️ Please note that the A515 through Ashbourne town centre is still closed necessitating a lengthy diversion which is best avoided if you can. For this reason we'll bring you in on a route off to the west via Waterhouses, Winkhill, Onecote, and Warslow which is only a few minutes longer than the usual A515 route north of Ashbourne.

The walk start is located outside of the toilet block on the B5054 in Hartington as per the photo above which also shows the various parking options available nearby.

From your home location northwards to Ashbourne either via Sudbury (A515) or Uttoxeter/Rocester/Mayfield (B5013/B5031/B5032), direction Ashbourne. If on the A515 pass the Ashbourne town sign, then turn left at the island, direction Leek A52. 0.25 mile later turn left again onto the A52 and continue for 4.5 miles until it merges into the A523 just past Swinscoe. From here proceed on the A523 for a further 5.5 miles through Waterhouses and Winkhill, to the crossroads with the B5053 at Bottom House, 200 yards past the Mehek restaurant on your right.

Turn right onto the B5053 and follow the course of this road via Onecote and Warslow for 5.5 miles to turn right shortly after Warslow onto the B5054, signed for Hartington. After 2.5 miles enter Hartington and park up anywhere as indicated on the satellite image in the photos above.

If on the B5013/B5031/B5032 you can pick up the A52 by turning left at the T-junction in Mayfield, then as above.

In the village centre either park on the roadside opposite the Charles Cotton Hotel, or turn off to the left at the village square and park on the roadside near the duck pond with due consideration for local residents. Alternatively, roadside parking is possible on the B5054 after the toilet block on your right, or Parson's Field council car park is located on your left as you enter the village. Last year this was £6.20 all day, but is likely to have increased since then.

Once parked walk over to the meeting point at the toilet block on the B5054, again as indicated on the screenshot and the regular road atlas map herewith.
