Overview

An old favourite. A walk around Christchurch Harbour including Hengistbury Head starting and finishing at the railway station. There is a 15-20 min urban walk from the station down to the River Stour. The walk then  follows the river before crossing open common land to reach Hengistbury Head visitor centre where there will be a coffee stop 2.5 mls. Then follows the ascent of the headland (130ft) with fine views of the harbour (visibility permitting). Descending the headland Mudeford ferry is reached 4mls.  After crossing the harbour entrance there will be a stop with time available to purchase lunch  (e.g. Haven House Inn) and or eat a picnic. Then follows a short urban stretch before rejoining the harbour path crossing Stanpit Nature Reserve & Grimbury Marsh. The walk will end by walking around the Priory & probably up the high street to the station 8.5mls.
