Overview

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

Part 5 of an epic long-distance trail around Hertfordshire - join us for any of these!

Please note this is a linear walk from Markyate to Tring Station.

Today will be slightly different to previous sections of the Hertfordshire Way as we will be meeting at the end point at Tring Station then car-sharing to the start point at Markyate. Please post a comment on the Meetup event page with the number of spaces you have in your car if you are happy to drive people to the start point or take the drivers back to their cars at the end of the walk.

The route today is through farmland, woodland and part of the Ashridge Estate, and includes a few hills.

We start the walk by heading uphill, leaving Markyate behind along grassy tracks and passing Beechwood Home Farm. Then, we continue along the gravel track to Beechwood House, a country mansion which is now a private school.

From here, we head along Dean Lane, past Hoo Wood and across the River Gade to reach Great Gaddesden, where we will have lunch on picnic benches.

We go uphill out of Great Gaddesden, along a quiet lane and over a rocky field to reach Little Gaddesden.

We then enter the Ashridge Estate and walk past the stunning Ashridge House. From here we head along the long ride that links the house with the Bridgewater Monument. When we get to the Monument we will stop at the cafe for optional tea and cake. There are also toilets here.

It's then the last two miles downhill and through the picturesque village of Aldbury to reach the end of the walk at Tring Station.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.

Booking your place: If you would like to join, you must book in advance using the Stag Walkers Meetup group - see Notes for how to book & what to bring. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking so that someone else can take your place.

Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.

Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.

Please car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
