Huncoat is a small village 1 mile east of Accrington on the slopes of the pennines. The Huncoat Trail was officially launched in 2004 to foster a good image of the area. Between the two World Wars the area had 3 collieries, 2 coke works, and the famed Nori Brickworks. Accrington Nori (iron spelt backwards) Bricks were super strength bricks, thousands were shipped to USA and were used in the foundations of the 1,453 ft Empire State building. They were also used in the construction of Blackpool Tower.
