A perennial favourite, this walk takes in open moorland, sweeping views, and industrial history.
From Hutton-le-Hole we gently climb up across Spaunton Moor following footpaths and tracks through the heather moorland until we reach Chimney Bank. Here we get stunning views across Rosedale, and can see some remnants of the ironstone mining industry that was in this area. After enjoying the views and history, we head to Ana Cross before following gently descending tracks towards Lastingham. Depending on the weather, we will either ford the stream, or divert through the village before following the road back to Hutton-le-Hole.
This walk is on a mix of footpath, moorland tracks, and quiet country lanes.
Waterproof footwear is highly recommended as there are two fords to cross.
Dogs are welcome on this walk, but must be kept on a lead at all times.
Please park in the National Parks car park (charges apply), as on-street parking is for residents only. Toilets available in the car park.
Please use the Facebook event page to arrange car-sharing.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of the walk, so that we can get a prompt start.
There are cafes and a pub in the village for post-walk refreshments.
