Meet in Portland Road, Hythe car park (height restriction) Portland Road, Hythe Green behind the former Duke’s Head pub. (Parking is normally free at this time of year). Alternatively, park nearby along A259 Dymchurch Road/Military Road on either side of the Military Canal. The starting point is also near to the Red Lion Square bus stops, with services from Folkestone, Lydd, New Romney, and the number 18 bus from Canterbury.
This walk starts at sea level before climbing the slopes behind the Town to Sene Valley Golf Course, Sene Wood and Dibgate Camp so there are some hills, but we’ll maintain a leisurely pace. After crossing Horn Street we’ll pass Shorncliffe Military Cemetery then descend via Sandy Lane to Seabrook and return to Hythe along the Military Canal Path – or, if the weather is suitable, along the seafront. There may be a short refreshment stop if the tea cabin at Sene Golf Course is open and there are a number of refreshment options in Hythe at the end of the walk. Please bring water and a snack if you wish.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome but there may be some stiles which may not be dog-friendly and there will be livestock along the route.
