A leisurely stroll along high level wooded trails taking in two favourite National Trust houses. We start at the beautiful moated manor house of Ightham Mote and begin with a steep climb to Raspit Hill. We then follow the escarpment above Stone Street and emerge from the woods to face St Lawrence Church whose origin is steeped in tragedy. We re-enter the woods for a while before the landscape opens up as we pass Hall Place and the hamlet of Godden Green. Soon after this, we enter Knole’s deer park and catch a view of Knole house, home of the Sackville family for the last 4 centuries. We will stop here for a picnic lunch, before making our way back to Ightham Mote along the Greensand Way. The terrain is mostly undulating through woodland with some long-ranging views from the ridge. The ground is fairly dry, although if it rains before the walk the bridleways could become muddy. There will be a couple of very short sections on roads.
Tea rooms at both houses, but bring a picnic lunch as there could be long queues. National Trust members should bring their cards for car parking, non-NT members parking fee is £3, the tea rooms and toilets are free to access at both properties.
