Our walk will take us from The Needles to Yarmouth on the isle of Wight. After alighting from the ferry we will take the bus from Yarmouth to Alum Bay (bus at 11:50 or the 12:20, if the ferry is late getting in). From there we will walk to The Needles, then up over Tennyson Down before arriving in Freshwater Bay (3 miles). For our return journey, from Freshwater to Yarmouth and the ferry, we will be walking along the footpath next to the River Yar (3 miles). If the weather is favourable we will hopefully be treated to some far reaching views from Tennyson Down!
PLEASE NOTE: You are advised to book your ferry in advance at (https://www.wightlink.co.uk/book), as the peak time sailings are always very busy in the summer months and there is usually a long queue at the ticket office on the day, which means there is always a chance that you will not get on the ferry of your choice as priority is given to advance bookings. Ferry booking times for Wightlink crossings are as follows: OUTBOUND: Lymington to Yarmouth 11:00 - 11:40. INBOUND: Yarmouth to Lymington 17:05 - 17:45. Please also bring a picnic lunch and there will be a chance of ice creams. Don't forget to bring a swimsuit and towel for a potential dip in the sea in Freshwater (the long range forecast suggests a sunny day with temperatures up to 22/23 degrees)!
Lymington Ferry Terminal Car Park. There is an overflow car park along the South Baddesley Road if the main car park is full. Please arrive by 10.30 for boarding the 11.00 am Wightlink ferry. Please allow plenty of time to reach the Lymington Ferry Terminal and don't forget your bus passes. OS Map OL29
