Whether you know her or not, we hope you can join us for an afternoon walk to celebrate rambler Joan's birthday with her today !
Meeting at Golden Hill Fort (free car park), and also accessible by No 7 bus (Heathfield Close stop, and walk back round the corner to Golden Hill Fort) for a 1.30pm start, this will be an approx 4-5 mile leisurely circular walk.
Precise route yet to be recce'd, but it will include some coastal and some inland walking, and hopefully will allow time for a drink by the sea at either Totland or Colwell Bay, as well as a slice of celebratory birthday cake when we return to Golden Hill

By bus
No 7 buses from Newport and Ryde both stop at Heathfield Close stop at 13:05 - walk onto the main road and just around the corner to Golden Hill Fort, it is only a few mins walk.

Bring drinks. (It is a short walk and there will be cake at the end, so no need to bring food but obviously feel free to bring a snack if you wish.)
Depending on the weather, consider suitable, clothing, footwear, walking poles, sun cream. Walking poles can be particularly useful in winter in helping you to stay upright! Watch out for ticks and remove ASAP. If you are unsure about your ability to undertake this walk, please contact the walks leader. If you need to leave the walking group, please ensure you inform the leader or back marker.
Please note that there may be short sections of road walking, so please walk in a single file and take good care.

Some people may wish to carry an ICE (in case of emergency) card. We have Ramblers cards for this purpose. Do discuss this subject with your walk leader if it is of interest.
