On the slopes of Carreg Goch, in the centre of The Black Mountain, lies the wreckage of Wellington Bomber MF509. A memorial close by commemorates the 6 Canadian crew who perished in the crash on the night of 20 November 1944.
We will climb steeply above the valley of Craig-y-Nos initially to find the Saith Maen line of neolithic standing stones, before traversing rough ground between tarns to the crash site. Continuing, we pick up the Old Coffin Route that leads us through the hills back to our start.
Coffee and cake at the country park café after.

Quite steep ascent for first 100m then easing off to crash site. Steep grassy descent towards end. Mostly moorland walking on rough uneven ground, and some grassy trails. Generally well drained but can be wet in places.
May be suitable for dogs on short lead, although there is some livestock and 2 stiles.
