Follow the Southern Upland Way gently uphill (towards Melrose) over Chester Hill, and, after leaving the SUW, descend to cross the Lauder Burn, followed by a gentle ascent to Lauder Common and on to the public road to Stow. After a mix of  walking along the road and over moorland, ascend to Burgess Cairn (lunch stop here) and return to Lauder via Brown Rig and Scarce Law. Approximate end-time 3 p.m.

The walk is a mix of good paths and quad-bike tracks, with a short stretch of road-walking.
