A lollipop walk from Sadberge of 6 miles across fields and along the 1825 railway trail. We start and end the walk by carefully crossing the A66 near the layby we are meeting in. From here we walk across fields to the Entreprenante Wood which we skirt around and join the 1825 railway trail. We follow this through Middleton St George and then walk through The Whinnies nature reserve to the A67 junction. Carefully crossing the junction we follow Mill Lane and join the footpath at West Hartburn Farm towards White House Farm. We continue along the track to Street House Farm where we join Sadberge Road, a former Roman Road, and walk for about 1/4 mile along this busy road to the footpath to Sadberge Hall Farm. This footpath takes us back to Entreprenante Wood and the stile onto the path back towards the A66. Bring your own lollipop!
The first and last mile of the walk are quite exposed to any wind but the remainder of the route is quite sheltered, layers would be useful in case you need to discard a top layer for comfort.
If the weather has been/is wet and mild the fields we cross will be muddy and slippery, one of which has been deep-ploughed so walking poles are recommended. The stiles between the fields are poorly maintained but passable with care.
Please wear an item of brightly coloured clothing and carry a torch so you are visible to drivers on the A66 for your own safety.
There will be a ten minute break. Please feel free to bring a drink/snack to enjoy. Assistance dogs only.
