Moderate circular low hill and countryside walk of up to about 9 miles on varied tracks and paths. The Learney Estate is located to the north of Torphins and lies to the south of the B9119 Echt to Tarland road. The Tarland Paths Group produce a good map of a lot of the paths around Torphins (see on-line, or paper copy). They are also helping create some new routes in the locality, e.g. a path from Torphins to Glassel (and on to Banchory, in due course). There will be up to 15 places on the walk.
Booking is essential. Please contact the walk leader Jay using the contact details provided to book, or if you have any questions, by the Thursday evening prior to the walk. Please phone or text. If you leave a message please remember to leave your name and contact telephone number. Confirmation of your booking is required for attendance. It is essential for the walk leader to know who is coming on the walk and to be able to contact people should there be any changes. Please remember to contact the walk leader if you are no longer able to attend.
Good walking boots plus waterproof walking jacket and zipped overtrousers are ALL essential. Gaiters and walking poles are up to individual preferences. There may be some gates to climb (but on recent recce we could open 2 gates). There is one small burn to cross. Please bring mid-morning and lunch food, plus drink and plenty of water. Sun cap / hat and sun cream strongly recommended. Also, midge and tick repellents. (Remember to do an all over tick check after the walk because of the risk of Lyme disease from tick bites).
Parking: There is some car parking outside the Learney Hall on the Beltie Road / A980 (in the middle of Torphins). You will also find on-street parking on the North side of the main Torphins cross roads. This is The Square (the B993 going North). There may also be parking on the road below Learney Hall, by the cemetery.
Toilets: There are public toilets in the middle of Torphins, opposite the Learney Hall.
