A Moderate (harder) hill walk keeping at a steady pace. This is a longish hill walk, with a gradual climb of about three hours on tracks. The route heads south from Rhynie, out of the Water of Bogie glen up onto the Correen Hills. We traverse over Badingair Hill, Brux Hill and descend from Edinbanchory Hill. We zigzag down to the River Don valley at Invermossat. Cross over the Alford road then walk up the Don for less than a mile before heading over the lower southern flanks of Ardhuncart Hill to the Kildrummy layby.
This is a linear walk. Meet near Kildrummy, drive the minimum number of cars on to Rhynie. Walk back to Kildrummy. Some, if not all of us, will need to return to Rhynie in the cars.
The café in the Alford main car park is open until 4.30ish, so some could possibly go in there for a cuppa, if heading home that way.
Booking is essential. Please contact the walk leader Jay using the contact details provided to book, or if you have any questions, by the Thursday evening prior to the walk. Please phone or text and say where you are coming from. If you leave a message please remember to leave your name and contact telephone number. No bookings by WhatsApp. Confirmation of your booking is required for attendance. It is essential for the walk leader to know who is coming on the walk and to be able to contact people should there be any changes. Please remember to contact the walk leader if you are no longer able to attend.
Walking boots are very strongly advised. Waterproof jacket and overtrousers are an essential requirement for hill walks. Bring a suitable hat for a sunny day, sun glasses, sun cream, insect repellent (ticks, midges and flies), spare thin fleece / jumper. Walking poles and gaiters are optional. Bring a pack lunch / hill food and a flask for hot / cold drinks. It may be a LONG HOT day, make sure to bring plenty of water. There will be two stops.
Parking - At Kildrummy - the off road parking layby on the west side of the road (on the right hand side if coming from Alford). This in one mile from the Mossat junction. It’s a fast road, so take care turning right into the layby. You can enter at either end of the looped layby. (Please all park facing towards Rhynie). At Rhynie - We will drive 6 miles north to Rhynie along the A97 from Kildrummy, (turning left at Mossat). At the Square in Rhynie turn left onto the A941 and park on this road near the Church. We will meet again at the Church car park. This may be busy so park where you can.
Toilets –There is just one public toilet cubicle for women, plus facilities for men in Rhynie (opposite the Corner Shop). There are also public toilets en route in Alford, in the main public car park.
The walk is not suitable for dogs.
