We meet at the Windy Gap Car Park, Leith Hill, the car park below the Tower, for a 5.7 mile hike.
On leaving the car park there is a steep ¼ mile ascent (aided by 193 steps) to the Tower, well known as the highest point in SE England, The next 2 ½ miles is a gentle northward descent through the Surrey Hills along well marked woodland paths, passing the now closed Stephan Langton pub at Friday Street. At Friday Street we stop by the pond for an early coffee break. Shortly after coffee we have a short steep descent before turning south and joining the Greensand Way for a long but gentle ascent back to Leith Hill but with a short but steep final climb.
With luck the snack bar will be open at the Tower and we can enjoy drinks and possibly a picnic whilst admiring the views before returning down the same 193 steps to the car park.
