Todays walk starts from the IBC International Bomber Command Centre on the southern side of Lincoln overlooking the city. Parking for the day at the IBC is £3 and access to the display at the rear (which is amazing and a must see) is FOC NB There is fee payable to go into the upstairs exhibition area but we are not doing that today. A café and toilets are available.
This year is a great time to visit as there is a fantastic poppy display outside by the main memorial (again a must for the views over Lincoln)
From here we walk along the top of South Common down towards the River Witham and follow it to Brayford Pool in the centre of Lincoln before making our way towards the infamous “Glory Hole” and then meander through Lincoln before we head up “Steep Hill” towards the Cathedral.
After circling the Cathedral to admire its architecture we will hopefully take a quick look inside the entrance (No fee for a quick look) Toilets are available nearby too
After leaving the Cathedral we walk through Lincoln Castle grounds before making our way back towards Brayford, retracing our tracks along the Witham, this time walking through the lower section of South Common, past the horses and back towards International Bomber Command.
Now is a good time to take a good look at the main Display monument. (through the shop area and out of the doors at the rear) You could easily spend an hour or so here
