This walk is the same as the walk Tony led in January 24 but with a different start point and in the reverse direction. After following a community route for just under a mile we start the main climb of 225 metres though Llantrisant forest, following the Taff Ely Ridgeway Walk, to reach the open ridgeway; during part of the climb trees have been harvested allowing pleasant view to the north. We continue to St Peter’s Church after which we leave the ridgeway to descend to the rebuilt Gelli`r-haidd-uchaf where we continue to descend to Thomastown and the start.
There are three stiles and, apart from short sections, the route is on tarmac or good tracks.
Due to many of the group’s members not wishing to lead walks, mainly due to the paperwork involved, this walk uses the same routes employed in the recent past. Leaders don’t have the time to reconnoitre new walks as these often take 2 or 3 reconnoitres to iron out problems if they are expected to lead more often.
