This walk takes us through some outstanding West Dorset scenery on fairly lightly trodden paths where we are likely to encounter more deer than people in the two nature reserves that we shall pass through.
We shall begin our walk from opposite the Loders Arms, where we will pick up the disused railway track and make our way to Mappercombe Manor and continue into Nettlecombe and then Powerstock. We will then thread our way to South and North Poorton via series of footpaths and quiet roads to reach Burcombe. We shall then head towards Loscombe via the Jubilee trail and then enter Loscombe Nature reserve climbing out of the steep valley towards Spring Hill. We then descend into South Poorton Nature reserve at first following the watercourse before it widens. (We could do a spot of pruning in this section as it has a few passable fallen branches, please bring secateurs if you want to help). We will continue into West Milton to the edge of Mangerton and complete our route with a descent into Loders.
To book a place on this walk please contact Tim via SMS or WhatsApp on 07825773363 .Please park considerately in the main street and do not use the pub car park. Please consider car share and feel free to contact leader so you can be put in touch with willing drivers.
This walk has five ascents and five descents one of the ascents being quite steep. As a lot of the walk is on footpaths in a combe it may be quite wet in places after rain so please bring appropriate footwear preferably boots along with waterproofs and a packed luch. There are a moderate number of stiles on the walk. There are no toilet facilities on the route.
We generally walk at a fairly brisk pace as a group but the terrain and stiles may mean a rather slower pace than normal.
We will endeavour to have optional post walk refreshments at the Loders Arms at the conclusion of the walk.
No dogs except assistance dogs. Please feel free to contact leader if you have any questions about the walk.
