A circular walk starting at Longden C of E Primary School, Plealey Lane in the historic Shropshire village of Longden. The walk proceeds along country lanes and farm tracks towards the picturesque village of Plealey taking in extensive views of the Wrekin, Nesscliffe Hill, the Breiddens and the spires of Shrewsbury in the far distance. After a short coffee stop, the walk continues towards Pontesbury Hill taking in the local beauty spot of Lyd Hole waterfall for a lunch stop. At this time of year, the waterfall is at its best in this beautiful woodland setting. Continuing on following the Rea Brook, the walk passes through woodland and on past the Lingcroft Pools before returning to St. Ruthen Church, Longden.
Roadside parking is allowed on Plealey Lane (SY5 8ET), near but preferably not opposite Longden C of E School gates while avoiding resident's driveways.
The walk includes 2 stops - a coffee and packed lunch stop. There are no refreshment facilities in Longden village other than a small supermarket. The nearest pub is the Nags Head, Pontesbury, some 2 miles away.
The walk is classified as moderate as there are some short ascents and descents and the route can, in places, be uneven underfoot.
Hazards: Take care on those parts of the walk on country lanes as farm machinery and vehicular traffic is in daily use.
The terrain can, in places, be slippery when wet hence poles and sturdy footwear is advised. There are approx. 5 stiles on route, some of which can be slippery when wet.
Dogs welcome on the walk but must be kept on a lead.
