A largely flat, linear walk, joining the Leeds Liverpool canal by Maghull Station, Station Lane, Maghull, L31 3DE, and meandering northwards towards Lydiate and Downholland. Our first 4 miles will be along the picturesque canal, passing firstly through Maghull, and then out into open countryside.
We will leave the canal at Greens Lane, and cut across the fields to Walsh Hall; St Michael's at Holt Green, and finally across public footpaths to Town Green Station.
Walkers can then use the Merseyrail train (every 30 minutes on Sundays), or Arriva bus to return to Maghull .
Park for free at Maghull Station (if a train user), where toilets, pub and a coffee shop are available.
There is the opportunity for refreshments at Arthur's in Town Green at the end of the walk.
Notes:
Dogs welcome, as long as they are kept on a lead.
The walk goes over 2 high stiles.
If you have an OAP bus pass, you can alternatively return to Maghull from Town Green free of charge on the number 310 bus, which leaves Aughton Institute (100 yards from Town Green Station) at 16:34 & arrives at Ormonde Avenue, Maghull (8 mins walk from Maghull Station) at 16:56.
If you are returning by bus, you may need to park your car in the vicinity of Maghull station; not on the station car park, as it is only free to passengers taking the train.
