Circular walk approx 7 miles with over1300 ft of ascent. Assistance dogs only.
We walk south from the start around the base of Hawnby Hill to Hill End House, then descend to cross the River Rye and ascend to Mount Pleasant Farm. From there, farm tracks and field paths will take us to Arden Hall, where we climb west up Arden Bank and then turn south across the moor. We then descend gently east to Sunnybank Farm and then more steeply to Dalicar Bridge to cross the river again near Hawnby church. From there we ascend towards Hawnby Hill and follow the footpath around its western side back to the start.
Route may be changed if the weather is very warm to avoid some of the ascent.
Could be muddy in places especially after rain.
The walk includes moorland, farmland and forestry with good views of the surrounding area and across towards the Howardian Hills.
Although I have graded the walk as moderate, it could be more strenuous on a hot day due to the amount of ascent and we may take the ascents more slowly which may extend the time for the walk. Please bring plenty of drinks to stay hydrated if it's hot. Note there is nowhere to buy food/drink on the route.
There will be a ten minute break. Please feel free to bring a drink/snack to enjoy.
