Overview

The route goes N from Mossley, alongside the Dane -in-Shaw brook, then along the Biddulph Valley way to the canal and beyond into the top of Dane-in-Shaw pastures. Then NE over the canal, through woods before crossing the railway line N along a track to Yewtree farm. Then along the road to the canal (with a short stretch on busy A54) and N along the canal before turning off and taking urban paths to the river Dane in Havannah. The route then follows the Dane as far as Congleton Park woodlands and is then picked up again across the bridge below Rood hill, then N to Astbury Mere (toilets and lunch). After lunch along E side of Mere, partly in woodland, then E to join Lamberts Lane and then along the canal through Hightown before turning off back for Mossley.
