A quarry walk with David, around, through, in, and even under some of the quarry sites in the Wirksworth Middleton area. Several good climbs, so I have indicated that it is strenuous, in parts. Some of the paths have lush overgrowth, so it may be detrimental for those wearing shorts! Morning break at the highest point 1,101 feet above sea level (after 2.25 miles, above intake Quarry.)
Sheep in some fields, Dogs on Leads please.
Risk assessment We cross the B5023 twice, good sight lines, but do take care on this busy road. We also cross over the B5035, taking care in Middleton village. Limestone is present on all of the paths, so slippery if wet. Three stiles in total, slippery if wet. Beware of tree roots in all woodland areas, tripping hazard. Three steep downhill sections, special care needed, very slippery, if wet. As mentioned, some of the route is through areas where foliage is encroaching on the path, this may be uncomfortable for some, if wet please come prepared. Some minor road walking, keep right if traffic approaches.
