The walk leaves Newmarket railway station car park at 10.15. We will walk through the bustling town, pausing in the forecourt of the National Horse Racing Museum for a lavatory stop and to admire the statue of champion racehorse Frankel. We then proceed along the Bury Road, admiring the horses as they walk to their training grounds, take a grassy footpath past the British Racing School and then a quiet road to the village of Snailwell.
The lunch stop will be at one of Snailwell's village greens where there is a bus shelter for those with sandwiches or a nearby pub, the George and Dragon, serving food and hot drinks. In the afternoon we follow a bridleway back to Newmarket and the railway station. There are plenty of pubs and cafés in the town for those who wish to linger.
