Overview

This is the first leg of this year's challenge,  the Stour Valley Path. It's a mix of town pavements, grassy verges and a long stretch of the Stour Valley Path that goes along field edges, woods and the impressive Devil's Ditch. This is core horse racing country with sightings of the July Racecourse.

There are no cafes or facilities except in Newmarket town at the start and end so please bring provisions. Walking sticks may be useful on the up/downhill sections, which could be slippery.

For those taking a train, the one departing from Cambridge at 9:48 reaches Newmarket at 10:08.
