The walk starts at Newtyle car park. We head out through the village, passing Bannatyne House and then taking the disused railway before ascending Keillor Hill to Mackenzie Meridian Monument. This is the highest point of the walk and there is a prolonged steep ascent to the top. The path then narrows and we skirt around Loch Long and onto Easter Keith, then Thriepley Estate. The path on the Estate deteriorates and walking poles are essential for this part of the walk. We then head through Burnside Plantation before linking in with the railway and back to the start.
RADO
70% of this walk is on good paths. There is a locked gate to climb - this is quite unstable, so care will need to be taken. There is a section of the walk, after lunch, where the path is very overgrown with heather, gorse and some hidden boggy sections, plus a small stile with barbed wire on either side of it. When the recce was done the ground was very wet. Gaiters and walking poles are advised.
Please book with walk leader at least 2 days before walk.
