Overview

Important:  If you wish to come on this walk and are not signed up to the Bannau Brycheiniog Weekend Away please contact Beth on 07956242703 before attending, so she can check numbers are still manageable.

Walk Length: 10 miles

Walk grading: Challenging

Walk leader: Dan

Total Ascent: 2125ft / 725 metres

Please note that the exact start time/location might change closer to the time as we're still finalising the detailed timings for the weekend away. We accept no responsibility for anyone turning up without making us aware you're coming, as you might miss us if we don't know to update you.

As this walk is a bit of a drive from the bunkhouse we'll need to balance attendees with cars and set off nice and early so we're back in time for the group meal in the evening. This may mean places on this walk are on a first come, first serve basis depending on number of cars, and parking is limited. There is an alternative walk option on this day from the bunkhouse.

Join us as we tackle another few peaks in the glorious Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and enjoy incredible views over Llyn-y-fan Fach and Llyn-y-fan Fawr.

This 10 mile loop over dramatic, flat-topped mountains is not to be missed and is much quieter than nearby Pen y Fan. We'll cross the River Tawe (note you might get wet feet!) before picking up a route alongside the Nant-y-Llyn ricer, passing several waterfalls and plunge pools, before the route flattens out and you enjoy views of the first Llyn (glacial lake) as you ascend again to  Fan Brycheiniog and, further along, Fan Foel.

A further summit to the stunning Picws Du gives a view of Llyn y Fan Fach, and from there we'll head back to the start point, having completed a long loop.

Its important that you bring suitable gear for mountain climbing - walking boots, lots of warm layers, hat, gloves, minimum 2l water and plenty of food. We also recommend walking poles as they are particularly good for your knees when going downhill!
