We meet on the Great Green opposite the Motte & Bailey pub in Pirton. We head through the village passing the Parish Church of St Mary’s and the remains of the Motte and Bailey Castle built by the Normans between 10-12 Century. We head easterly along the Icknield Way before heading north in the direction of Holwell skirting the outskirts of the village before heading towards Snailswell and the outskirts of Ickleford. We then return to the Icknield Way in a westerly direction taking the Mill Way before heading east back to Pirton passing through the Bury and earthworks of the ruins of the castle before arriving back at the pub for refreshments.
Please park with consideration around the village, there is plenty of parking.
This is a moderate pace walk. We want everyone to enjoy our walks, if you have any concerns about the pace please speak to the walk leader.
Please bring your Ramblers card (if you have one) to help speed up the Ramblers register before we start the walk.
