This is a leisurely walk with points of interest en route. We will head from Weston to Wallington on the Icknield Way, passing by St Mary's Church in Clothall, with a 15th century stained glass window notable for its remarkable depiction of birds. At Wallington we will view the small house where George Orwell lived with his wife Eileen from 1936-40, Manor Farm, the setting for "Animal Farm" and St Mary's Church with its interesting display about George Orwell's time in Wallington, including his wedding at the Church. On the way back we will take the Hertfordshire way and we will keep our eyes open in the hope of seeing rare black squirrels who only reside in this part of the UK. All are welcome to join us for a post-walk drink at 'The Cricketers' in Weston.
You can park in the small business park off Damask Green Road about 500 metres from the Cricketers pub or alternatively around the village.
There is no need to pre-book or contact the leader in advance. If already a Ramblers member, please just bring your Ramblers card (or membership details on the app) to help speed up the Ramblers register before we start the walk.
