Overview

Given summer conditions, make sure you get to the starting point as soon as possible in case it's busy, that you bring lots of water and food, and prepare for intense heat and some high climbs. We will start along Sandhurst Copse and then follow Woodhill Lane and Stroud Lane to reach Long Copse. This will be the first major climb of the walk. At the top we will proceed along Great Copse and Rock Copse and should be at Alderbrook Copse by 12 if we are lucky. We can either have lunch here or we can continue walking through the hilltop woods, including The Warren and Mill Plain before the second major climb to Pitch Hill, our second option for lunch in a little sideing with logs and shade. Afterwards, we will walk up to Gasson Copse and follow Ewhurst Road to Peaslake for ice cream at the shop or a quick drink at the pub if we have time. (Please be sensible as this is a popular but crowded area on a village road.) Once done, we pass the church back up Gasson Copse before turning off and then do the third big climb. At the top, we just keep heading straight, cross over Hound House Road and then avoid the private land by following the footpath signs north of Winterfold Forest and to Farmhouse Dick's Hill. We will cross Row Lane and then follow the bridleway along Shopehouse Lane, then at Farley Green we will cross some farms with horses and continue straight all the way back to the car park.
