Overview

This walk begins from the Half Moon public house, with a climb up the steep northern escarpment of the Downs. From the top, views northwards across the Weald are seen before the way descends down to pass through Streat village, by Plumpton race course and the church at East Chiltington.

Jill will ask if members can park in the Half Moon pub car park, in Plumpton Lane, with the understanding that those who do use the car park, enjoy a beverage before they drive away.

Can be extremely muddy underfoot once we drop down from the South Downs. Wellington Boots and walking pole(s) may assist you?

If one travels on the Ditchling Road/B2116 from Lewes turn right on to Plumpton Lane, sign posted Plumpton. There is parking in a lay-by on the left, just past the entrance to The Half Moon pub car park. There is further parking if you drive 200metres on the right to another lay-by.
