Starting at the Nags Head, Pontesbury (SY5 0QD), walk along the Pontesford Brook valley to Lyd Holes waterfall. After a short ascent, the walk continues gradually uphill through farmland and atmospheric woodland along mostly good pathways and onwards around Radlith Hill. At approx. halfway, there will be a short snack break at a scenic location overlooking Pontesford and Earl's Hills, Nesscliffe and Breidden Hills with the Severn valley in the distance. Continue through rolling farmland to the Minsterley branch line and the disused lead ore smelter returning to the Nags Head at the end of the walk.
Walk starts at 10.15 am from the Nags Head pub, (A488)Shrewsbury Road, Pontesbury opposite the Mary Webb School and Science College.
This is not a Short and Social walk however the pub landlady would appreciate those using the car park to stop for a coffee or similar at the end of the walk. The Nags Head does offer a lunch menu. Anyone wishing to stay for lunch should make their own arrangements at the pub.
Distance: 5 miles/8 Km
