Overview

We shall walk up into the Portmore House estate and then take a forest route to reach Portmore Loch where we shall have a coffee break.  Continuing around the loch we shall ascend a small hill to give lovely views north and south.  After this we enter open woodland and heather to reach the Northshield Rings, a suitable spot for lunch.  After leaving the rings we gently descend to rejoin the outward route passing Portmore House again.  We shall encounter tarmac, forest tracks, open ground, and plenty of muddy and wet patches to enjoy walking around.
