This circular walk offers a delightful variety of scenery, ranging from a wooded valley to open moorland along the historic Thieves’ Road. Starting at Baddinsgill, the route follows the Old Drove Road northward toward Baddinsgill Reservoir. With the reservoir to our right, we continue uphill along the track, crossing Ravendean Burn and making our way toward the Cauldstane Slap.
Following the fence line, we will climb the boggy slopes of West Cairn Hill. The route follows a drystone dyke, which turns at right angles near the summit at 562 metres. From the summit, we pick up a path and turn left along the gently undulating ridge of Cloven Craig, continuing on toward Colzium Hill.
Descending from Colzium Hill, we reach a boggy area at the base where the distinctive rocky cleft known as Wolf Craigs comes into view. After crossing the West Water Burn, we follow a path leading up to the rounded summit of Byrehope Mount.
From there, we descend along a path back toward Baddinsgill, completing this rewarding circular route.
