We are the Alton Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
We will start at the Tarn car park where there is ample parking space. Cross the Tarn climbing steadily North, passing Generals Pond, to the North Downs Way. Turn East for a steady climb along North Downs Way (Western) to the East end of Little Common. Turn South through Little Lascombe before turning SW to Lascombe Farm. On to Puttenham Common where we will stop for a break at Rodsall Lane car park to enjoy the lofty view over Puttenham Common and beyond. Continue past Cutmill Pond, through Broomfields and Fulbrook Farm, turning N through Britty Wood and back to the start.
A walk following wooded footpaths, open heathland and a small section of the North Downs Way. There are small sections of road walking linking the footpaths. There are no formal toilet facilities. Two reasonably maintained styles. The terrain is a mix of sand, earth, stony surfaces and tarmac. No formal lunch break but a 20 minute break at the halfway point at Rodsall Lane car park. Please bring sufficient water and be prepared for the likely weather conditions. The walk leader will be at the start point.
Alton Sports Centre, lower car park
Leave Alton on A31 towards Farnham and the Shepherd and Flock roundabout. Continue towards Guildford, and in about half a mile take the first exit signposted Runfold. Go up the exit ramp and follow the road round to the right and back over the A31. At T junction turn right and in about 100 yards turn left into Crooksbury Road signposted Elstead and The Sands. After just under half a mile take the left fork into Sands Road (no signpost!) Follow this road past Farnham Golf Club, through The Sands village and past The Barley Mow pub where the road becomes Littleworth Road. A little further on reach a crossroads with Elstead Road and Seale Road. Continue ahead and in about 1.5 mile the road bears right with the car park on the left.
