WALK DESCRIPTION:
Based on the current train timetable, the 8.59 all stations from Leeds (leaving Skipton at 9.45) is due to arrive at Appleby Railway Station at 11.06 where this circular led walk starts on arrival of the train.
The 8 mile circular led walk leaves Appleby Railway Station heading South on the Dales Highway (a 90 mile long distance trail between Saltaire and Appleby-in-Westmoreland) to the village of Hoff and then arriving at Rutter, where we see both Rutter Mill and Rutter Force waterfall.
Via tracks and quiet lanes, we then head in a North East direction to Great Ormside where we pick up a path which is both part of the Pennine Journey (Wainwright’s challenging 247 miles circular walk based on his 1938 expedition to Hadrian's Wall and back from Settle) and Lady Annes Way (a 100 mile long distance trail between Skipton and Penrith), to return alongside the River Eden into Appleby.
The Royal Oak at Appleby have offered us a menu for a special 2 course meal to be served circa 14.45 enabling us to leave there by 16.15 for the circa 20 minutes walk to the station.
That enables attendees to catch the train leaving Appleby at 16.44 to Leeds (not all stations - please check) arriving back at Skipton 17.57 and Leeds at 18.34.
All menu choices and payment for meals to be provided to Andrew Gold before the day of the Rail Ramble
