Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve (O.S. Explorer map 308). Setting out from the car park we pass Joe’s Pond and head towards Rainton Bridge. From there we climb to Low Moorsley and then High Moorsley, this is the only climb of any note on the walk and is neither steep nor strenuous. We then walk down through Low Pittingdon and along the side of Ramside Golf Club where we take lunch. Care is then required to cross the A690 from where we then move on through Leanside. Finally we pass Blue House Farm and West Rainton Stables Farm on our way back to the start point.
Terrain: Moderate difficulty, well defined paths, slight inclines, some road walking and will no doubt be wet and muddy in places.
There will be a lunch stop during the walk.
Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve Car Park, Mallard Way, Chilton Moor, Houghton le Spring Directions to Start point: Take the A1 South and exit at Junction 63 sign posted Stanley/Chester-le-Street. At the roundabout take 2nd exit for the A183. Follow this road until you come to a roundabout where you can go off to the right on the A1052. Follow this road for around 2 miles until you come to a roundabout where you go off to the right signposted Rainton Meadows. Follow along this road until you get to the car park at the Cafe. Should take around 40 mins from Ponteland.
