Walk Cambridge is an active walking club and social group, aimed at working age people living in Cambridge and the surrounding area.

The walk starts and ends at Reach, my new favourite village in Cambridgeshire. We can car-share or take the regular bus service from Cambridge (see below).

This is a scenic walk taking in the sights of Wicken Fen. We start by walking along the canal to Upware lock, enjoying the scenery and wild birds along the way.
At the lock there are normally some interesting canal boats moored. We cross over the bridge, then walk a short distance along the other side of the canal to enter the Wicken Fen Nature Reserve, which is managed by the National Trust (we don’t have to pay anything on this route).
As we do a rough circuit around Wicken Fen, we will pop into one of the bird hides where we will no doubt see the birds strutting their stuff in a lake. The lake was quite dried up when I did the reccy – I wonder what it is like now…?
After saying hi to the ponies in their ‘hood, we rejoin the canal and walk back to Reach to have a well-earned drink at the pub.
