Although this walk starts and ends in the ancient woodland of Mortimer Forest, the focus is on open countryside, with far reaching views across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Powys and even Worcestershire. After wandering south through the edge of the wood, we make our way across mainly arable farmland towards the pretty village of Richard's Castle. From here we head upwards on the Herefordshire Trail to join the Mortimer Trail, passing through the Goggin Nature Reserve and Hanway Common (views!) to a viewpoint at High Vinnals, before a gentle downhill wander back through woodland to the start point.
Crop fields may be tricky to cross, especially the maize. One long climb plus a very short steep one, and a few decent stiles.
